PGF Season 6

PGF(Professional Grappling Federation) season 6 is coming soon, so let's take a look at what it is and why it is going to awesome. PGF is a grappling event set up with a league format that you see in other sports. There are also teams, s unlike other events, all the matches matter. This is a 5 day event and there are multiple matches each day, so you'll get to see your favorites multiple times. One of the best things about it is, it will be FREE on youtube. The finale will be on fightpass, so if you want to see the ending you'll need that, but you can follow along with me through the week.

Format

There will be 4 team coached by Jean Jaques Machado , Roger Gracie, Dean Lister and Rigan Machado. The event will start with a draft of the players. Each coach has a certain amount of money to bid on each player and the players will be chosen based on the winning bid. There are 20 athletes this season, so there will be 5 people on each time. Each day there will be 3 blocks of matches and each block his 10 matches in it. Although this is a huge number of matches, keep in mind each match is only 6 min each and many times end faster than that. Winning the matches grants teams points and the winning team will get the $100,000 grand prize. This is an amazing amount of money for grappling and I'm sure the athletes are going to be hungry for that prize.

Rules

The matches are 6 minute, sub only affairs. If after 6 min, there is no submission both competitors get zero points. If you submit someone with a joint lock you get 3pts for your team, but chokes grant you 6pts. At the end of the 4th day the winning team will be announced, but things aren't over yet. On the 5th day there will be an 8 man single elimination tournament for $20,000. The 8 men will be chosen based on the points they accumulated during the regular season. These matches will be based on EBI rules, with a few changes.

Anti-stalling rules

This season there are new rules, such as the shot clock rule and anti-avoidance rules. Players can be penalized for a lack of action and 3 penalties result in the non-penalized player being awarded 2 pts at the end of the match. 5 penalties immediately stops the match and grants 2 pts. This will hopefully lead to more action and excitement. I think this is a great step forward towards getting more action and less conservative play.
