At the first day of ADCC 2026 we got a lot of upsets and things didn't go the way most people thought. There were quite a few bracket busters and things seem pretty wide open now. I'll post the brackets down below, so you can see the current standings and match ups. Below that I'll be resuming the play by play when the event starts, so stay tuned.

Play-By-Play
The athletes are walking in and things should be getting started soon. We are starting with the men and women's heavy weights.
Starting off with Mark McQueen vs Victor Hugo. Hugo pulls guard and works RDLR and then in X-guard. He moves into the saddle and tries and inside heelhook, but can't get it. Mark comes back on top and starts pressuring into the kneesheild. Hugo goes from halfguard to X-guard and then into a kneebar for the quick finish. Victor Hugo wins via kneebar.
We're coming in on Elizabeth Mitrovic vs Helena Crevar. Crevar working from guard and gets a close ankle lock and Liz almost taps, but Liz escapes and Helena comes on top. Helena drops back on an outside heelhook and Liz grits her teeth, but escapes. Helena gets on an ankle and locks in an Aoki lock. Liz trying to hold on, but Helena puts some heat on it and gets the tap. Helena Crevar wins via Aoki lock.
Coming up we have Luke Griffith vs Achilles Rocha. Luke hits a quick armdrag, but Rocha scramble back up to his feet. He continues and tries to hit a lat drop on Luke, but pulls mount instead. He scrambles again and ends up on top of Luke in closed guard. Luke slows down the match and Rocha tries to stand and break the guard, but Luke isn't having it. Luke opens the guard and Luke goes to an inverted armbar and then a triangle. Rocha picks him up and slams him hard, but Luke complains that the sub wasn't locked so the slam was illegal. They are going to the judges. Rocha ends up getting a penalty and the match is restarted standing. Luke sits to gguard and entters X-guard. Luke goes for an inverted heelhook and then a kneebar. It looks tight, but Rocha doesn't tap. Rocha escapes and ends up back in Luke's closed guard. Luke goes to the inverted armbar again and then switches to the omoplata, but Rocha scrambles out. Lukje goes back to the inverted armbar again, but can't finish. Rocha picks up the pace and starts blitzing and passes to mount, but can't secure it and Luke ends up on top. Luke quickly falls back though before top position is secured. Luke starts working a halfguard sweep, but can't finish. Rocha stands up and goes for a North south pass and Luke gets passed, but starts going crazy so he isn't scored on. Rocha is back on top and enters the truck position. From there he goes for a calfslicer, but Luke holds out and rolls to top, but Rocha scrambles back to top position and avoid the score. Rocha slices right through Luke's guard, but Luke escapes before he gets scored on. Luke locks up closed guard with 20 sec left. Time runs out. Luke Griffith wins 1-0.
Coming in on Sarah Galvao vs Joslyn Molina and Sarah is already past the guard. Molina is doing a good job staying on her side, but Galvao is grinding him and getting closer to the score. Molina turtles and Galvao takes her back. Molina stands and Galvao only has one hook in, but has a RNC over her face. Molina shrugs her off and they are back to standing. Galvao got 3 points in there and is up now. Molina gets Galvao down and is working on passing the guard. Galvao turtles and then reguards to get into X-guard. Molina escapes and starts working a north south pass. She switches to a double unders pass, but can't quite get it. Galvao back to guard and she works and ankle lock, but Molina easily defends. Time runs out. Sarah Galvao wins 3-0.
Next up is a rematch between Kaynan Duarte vs Daniel Schuardt. Dan dives in on a weird double leg/roll and Kayan jumps on his neck with a guillotine. Dan gets to half guard, but he still isn't out of trouble. Kaynan lets go and comes on top to work a kneeslice. Dan works DLR and Kayana tries a slow backstep that gets him in trouble and Dan almost sweeps him. Kayan holds on and stays on top and then moves into HQ position. Dan starts working his kneesheild and Kayan pressures in. Kayan is really pressuring in and Dan is doing a good job framing, but looks miserable. Kaynan backsteps and stays there deciding if he should go into the saddle or not. He falls back into the saddle and goes for the Texas cloverleaf, but can't get the tap. Kaynan abandons the position and starts to grind in through the halfguard and Dan is turing red. Kaynan backs out and tries some Ruotolo style outside passing to the othe side. He eventually gets it, but Dan turtles to avoid points. Dan tries a fatman roll, but he can't get it. Dan tries another turtle reversal by grabbing both of Kaynans legs. Kaynan just throws his arm around Dan's face and cranks away to get the tap. Kaynan Duarte wins via RNC/neck crank.
Next up we have PJ Barch vs Jacob Bornemann. PJ goes for a kneetap, but Jacob tries to uchimata. It doesn't work and PJ limp arms out and gets close to the back. Jacob tries to roll back to guard, but PJ gets to side control. There are no points yet though. PJ is in side control as points start and PJ grinds Jacobs neck with his forearm to make Jacob move. Jacob rolls and PJ tries to get a guillotine and there was a headbutt. They stop the action for a sec and then they go back to wrestling. Jacob almost gets and single, but misses and chases PJ, but can't get anywhere with it. Jacob goes for another double, but it isn't close. PJ hits a snapdown, but can't keep Jacob down. Jacob gets a good double leg and almost gets PJ down and PJ reverses and almost gets on top, but they go out of bounds. Jacob with another double, but he is too far out. Jacob goes for a single, but PJ starts reversing and gets on top of turtle. PJ goes for a darce and Jacob escapes. Jacob goes for another single and can't get it. PJ hits a snap down and gets on the back. He inserts the 2nd hook and time runs out before he can score. OT starts. Jacob goes for another single, but runs out of energy and PJ gets on top with Jacob in turtle. PJ inserts a hook. He starts cranking a RNC and then inserts the 2nd hook. Jacob escape the RNC and the the back, but is stuck in turtle again. PJ is up 3-0 and almost on the back again. PJ up 6-0 now. Jacob gets the hooks out and tries to scramble, but he seems too tired. PJ on the back again with 1 min left. PJ goes to a wrist ride and then a kimura for side control. Jacob move to get out and avoids the sub. Jacob rolls back to turtle, but he can't get out and time runs out. PJ Barch wins 9-0.
Jasmine Rocha vs Ana Mayordomo up now. Ana on bottom and Rocha is agreevie with here passing and Ana inverts into a kneebar. Rocha defends and goes into outside ashi. Ana with an outside heelhook to aoki lock to ankle lock. Rocha stays calm and escapes. Rocha tries an ankle lock of her own, but Ana counters with a deep ankle lock. Rocha escapes and passes the guard. Rocha in side control, but there are no points yet. Ana gets halfguard back. Rocha goes for the pass and Ana reverses her and attacks and ankle lock. It looks tight, but she can't get the tap. Ana uses this to come on top, but points haven't started yet. Ana sits to her but right before points start. Rocha comes up and starts blitzing passes. This makes Ana turtle and Rocha goes for an armbar from the turtle. Ana rolls, but it doesn't help. Jasmine Rocha wins with an armbar.
We are coming into Deigo "Pato" Oliveria vs Kennedy Maciel towards the end of regulation. They are in double pull and both cranking ankle locks. Pato goes for a bolo and is starting to sneak towards the back. Kennedy slides out and they go back to double guard. Pato goes for a bolo again, but can't get started and time runs out. OT starts and they are handfighting. Kennedy goes for a single and Pato catches the front headlock and then wraps up a cradle. Kennedy rolls and gets back to his feet. Kennedy immiately shoot and hits and iranian lift and gets on top of Pato. Kennedy is close to the back, but can't get his hooks in. Pato hits a quick spin and escapes to his feet. They go back to wrestling and Kennedy goes for a double leg and gets it, but Pato scrambles. Pato turtles and Kennedy is trying to insert his hooks as time runs out. Kennedy Maciel wins via decision.
The first bronze medal match is Elizabeth Mitrovic vs Paige Ivette Clymer. Liz sits to guard and Paige works some smash passing. Liz inverts and almost sweeps, but Paige comes back on top and starts camping from north south. The pressure gets to be too much and Paige gets the pass. Paige goes for the armbar and Liz spins out, but Paige applies it again and gets the tap. Paige Ivetter Clymer wins with an armbar.
Daniel Schuardt vs Achilles Rocha. Dan sit and and starts working halfguyard. Rocha start to work a kimura and uses it to pass. Rocha still has the grip, but Dan reguards and Rocha works a reverse halfguard pass. Rocha goes for a toehold, but can't get it and that allows Dan to get to the fish net position. Dan switches to a kneebar, but Rocha slips out. Rocha goes for a toehold now and Dan looks to isolate a leg. Dan gets to an outside heelhook, but Rocha spins out. Dan still has the leg and switches to 50/50. Dan rotates into a kneebar and Rocha defends, but Dan goes for it again and it is closer now. Rocha tries to turn it into a bolo, but Dan sees it coming. Dan gets into to saddle and grabs the toes. Dan bridges into it hard and pops Rocha. Daniel Shuardt wins via lateral kneebar.
Now we have Jozef Chen vs Gabriel Brod for bronze. They start out handfighting on the feet and for about 2 min nothing happens. Chen tries a little armdrag, but it goes nowhere. Chen tries a snap down, but can't get anywhere. They are starting to pick things up a bit, but not much it happening. Brod goes for a footsweep that is close and then Chen tries an armdrag, but doesn't get it. Brod hits a double leg and gets Chen down, but Chen scambles and comes on top. Brod puts him in 50/50 and tried to stand up, but Chen shrugs it off and tries to take the back. Brod keeps rolling and Chen ends up on to after a crazy scamble. Chen is on top and hits a tripod pass directly into an arm triangle. Chen is up 5-0 now as Brod turtles. Chen is looking to take the back and Brod is rolling like crazy to get out. Brod gets back to guard and Chen sets up another tripod pass and passes to knee on belly again and then moves to mount. Chen is up 10-0 now and Brod kips out only to get smashed again as Chen mounts him. Time runs out. Chen win 13-0.
Helena Crevar vs Anabel Lopez is for the gold at women's +65kgs. They start out hand fighting and neither can pull guard since it is the finals. Helena gets a bodylock, but Lopez ends up throwing her down. Helena sweeps her with a lumberjack sweep. Helena grabs a leg and goes for an ankle lock it looks tight, but she can't get the tap. She comes on top and Lopez goes for her own ankle lock and it looks tight as well and Helena has to stop and defend. Helena manages to counter and Lopez turtles. Helena gets a hook in and Lopez tries to use her turtle to defend, but Helena brings the hook all the way across the body and turns it into a body triangle. No points yet, but Helena is in great position. Helena can't get under the chin, so she cranks the face and that opens up the neck, so she sink in the choke. Helena Crevar wins via RNC.
Josh Sunders vs Victor Hugo up next. They come out hand fighting hard. Hugo goes for a footsweep and then tries to run Josh down, but can't get it. More handfighting and it looks like both a just waiting for the points period. Hugo goes for a kosoto gari, but can't get it. Hugo is leaning on Josh's neck and trying to cover his mouth from standing. Hugo shoots for a weak double, but Josh defends. The ref warns them and Josh goes for a kneetap, but it looks like Hugo just falls over and starts playing guard. Hugo goes for an armdrag and tries to get it, but Josh defends and they are back on the feet. It seems the judges called it a guard pull and Hugo loses a point. They restart andJosh throw Hugo with an uchimata and Hugo comes up and then sits down quickly. Points haven't started yet, but Josh is up 1-0 due to the penalty. Victor works his guard and isolates the shoulder and works into a rear triangle. Hugo flips him over and finishes the rear triangle for the win. Victor Hugo wins with a rear triangle.
Here we go with a rematch. Sarah Galvao vs Ana Carolina Viera. They start handfighting and Galvao is pushing forward hard. After a few min Ana runs at a leg, but doesn't get close. There has been a lot of nothing going on. Sarah goes hard on a double, but Ana just barely defends and they are clinched up. Ana picks up a single leg and puts Sarah down for half a second, but then she pops right back up and gets away. Galvao shoots from far away and comes up with nothing. Sarah goes Uchimata and thinks ahout a victory roll and then Ana comes in for a bodylock throw and gets hits with a big haraigoshi. Ana turtles and Sarah goes to an armbar. It is close, but Ana guts it out and escapes. Ana is on top now and starts working a double under pass. Sarah defends and Ana goes back to passing. Sarah starts working her closed guard, but Ana is shutting her down. Sarah is holder her off, but can't really get her game going. They are in a bit of a stalemate right now. Ana starts working some outside passing, but it isn't really phasing Galvao. Galvao gets more aggressive and she starts inverting for legs and trying to wrestle ups, but Ana shuts her down. Ana gets a deep double underhook pass and stacks Sarah up. Ana rolls her over, but Sarah just rolls back to guard. Time is about to run out in regulation and neither lady looks particularly tired. OT starts and they are back standing. Sarah goes for a double, but can't get it. Ana gives her one back with the same result. Sarah shoot 2 more doubles, but neither work. Ana gives her one back, but it isn't close. Ana pushes forward, but doesn't really go for anything. Ana goes for a single, but doesn't come close. Sarah seems to have slowed down a bit. Sarah shoots, but it isn't close. Ana goes for a single and Sarah goes for an armdrag and neither is close to being effective. Sarah shoots for a takedown and poke Ana in the eye again, which I think is the 3rd time. They both shoot and can't get close to finishing a takedown. The OT has been a whole lot of nothing with nothing to really help either woman secure the win. Time runs out. They are going to another OT for some reason and I'm dreading this and the audience agrees as they start booing. They hand fight for a few sec and Sarah hits a blast double, but Ana gets a guillotine and turns it into a front headlock. Sarah rolls to guard and Ana tries a kneecut and Galvao gets her arm stuck in a weird position. Sarah rolls and Ana takes her back and chokes her. Ana Carolina Viera wins with a RNC.
