Fight Pass Invitational 5 Play-by-Play

Its time for the last FPI event of the year. They've changed the rules and hopefully this will bring more action as they are using ADCC rules. Let's get to it.

Andy Varela vs Achilles Rocha

Achilles Rocha vs Andy Varela up first here. They tie up and Rocha is heavy on the head. Andy hits a throwby, and Rocha tries to granby out, but it doesn't work. After a few sec on the ground they stand again. The ref is really on them and warns them to get working after about 30 sec of no action. I like this ref. They are collar tying again and Andy tries a snap that doesn't work and the ref tells them to get to work again. Andy goes for a harai goshi, but Rocha pops back up. The ref warns them again to stop handfighting. Rocha shoots for a double, but can't get it. Rocha jumps guard and then start using inverted guard which, Andy immediately passes. Rocha gets his guard back and stands. Andy gets a warning for lack of activity. Rocha gets double unders, but can't do anything with it. Andy gets another warning and then hits a slideby which goes to a scramble and Andy gets the back with one hook in.

Andy is going for a full nelson, which is apparently legal, but Rocha starts rolling and then gets out and comes on top. There is no score yet with 90 sec left. Rocha puts pressure on from the top, but this lets Andy start to come to the top, but Rocha uses a leg entanglement to slow him down. The ref gives Andy -1, which I didn't think was warranted and they stand up. Time runs out and it looks like it is going to OT for some reason(Andy is down by one). I hate this raised stage. The action stops because they almost fall off the edge.

Rocha goes for a double, but can't get it, Andy shoots back and Rocha rolls him over. Andy builds up and slams Rocha, but they do out of bounds. The reset in the middle. Next up is Amanda Maza vs Hanna Goldy. They said it is a catch weight contest and I'm guessing Goldy is the larger woman. They start with Maza pushing forward and Goldy walking back while hand fighting. The handfighting is intensifying, but they aren't getting close enough to each other to do anything. Finally Goldy pulls guard. Goldy throws her legs up, for a triangle, but it isn't close. Maza tries to jump over the guard for an armbar, but Goldy stops it.
