PGF Season 7 Day 5

The playoffs are here and this will determine the individual winner of the season. This final day can only be found on UFC fightpass, so check it out there if you have a subscription. Some people were injured so it looks like some people came in that weren't originally going to be in, but they are good names.

It should also be mentioned that the format here was a bit different. This was a traditional tournament format rather than the round robin format we've seen previously. Also the rounds are now 10 min instead of 6 min and any draws will go to EBI Overtime. These differences could effect people as some people are experts at EBI while others have never done a match in the format before. Also the increased match time might effect some of these athletes, especially after a long week. We're at the end of the line and this tournament will decide who will be going home as the champ. Enough talking, lets look at the results.

How People Won

The ratios for this day were amazing. 71.5% of the matches ended in submission here, which has to be one of the highest percentages I've ever recorded. Most of the submissions were leg locks, but there were a number of chokes as well. The longer time period(from 6 min to 10) might have caused some people to alter their strategies and work more upper body submissions. No matter what they did, it worked.

Stats

Overall

Congrats to Ryan Atkin on his victory. I believe he is the first person to win the individual tournament and the team prize in the same season. He should be going back home with about $40,000, which is nice for a weeks worth. I believe he also set the record for the most points during a season, which is very impressive. Ryan has had a great year and I hope he enjoys his money and we see him again soon on some other shows.

I was rooting for Chris Wojcik and I thought he didn't win, I thought he put on a great performance as well. This season was great and I'm really looking forward to the next season. I was worried the some of these big guys might stall or slow things down, but I think the stalling rules kept that in check. This was another successful season with some great matches and tons of highlights. I heard that it will be at 155lbs, which should be even more exciting. I'll be compiling all the days together and do an analysis in a couple of days so stay tuned for that. Also support the PGF and at least give the videos a like and subscribe to their channel so we can continue to get some great free BJJ action.
