We have come to the finale of the UFC BJJ 1 show and today we will crown 3 new champions. The show was edited, so this is the first time we'll see how well the new format works. I'm a bit upset they didn't really announce the undercard, but I'm happy they are actually having undercard matches. I would have liked to have seen more contestants on it, but I'm guessing some of them were still injured or were booked for something else. Hopefully we'll see all of them again on future cards.

Here we got a 87.5% submission rate, which might be the highest I've ever recorded(I'm not sure as I haven't gone back through all the events). There was only 1 decision during the whole event, which was a pleasant surprise. Most of the finishes were chokes(62.5%) and then we got an arm and leg lock. You can see a breakdown of the exact submissions and attempts down below.
Overall the submission rate was 20%. I put Andrew Tackett's submission down as an Ezekiel choke although some might put it into the RNC category. I believe that is the first time I've seen an arm in RNC finished in a pro match. Hats off to him.
The takedown rate was 51%, which I'm sure was due to the bowl and Mikey letting himself be footswept. I'm sure Mikey single handedly increased the deashi barai completion percentage this year.
The sweep rate was 38% and the most common sweep at this event was the halfguard sweep.
The pass rate was 18% with each type of pass only having 1 completion.
The saddle and side control were the most common positions. We got a finishes from the mount, back and side control as far as dominant positions go.
As you can see this is one of the most watchable events of the year. The show and the last FPI actually had higher watachability scores, but this event had a higher action score. Overall I feel this was just a really, really good event. Just based on the amount of finishes alone it was great, but as the kick off event to a new promotion, you can't really ask for much more.
Overall
Congrats to Mikey, Henrique and Andrew as new inaugural UFC BJJ champions. All of them pulled off great performances, but I think the other people on the card did great as well. I don't think there is much more anyone could have done to make this a successful event, besides announcing the undercard sooner and making better looking belts.
The bowl really helped the action as there were no breaks for resets at all and that had been a major problem at the FPI events. I'm not a huge fan of the 10-point must system, but we only saw it used once here and the decision was very obvious. Things are looking good and I'm looking forward to the next UFC BJJ event next month.
