What We Learned From EBI 25

EBI is back with another installment and this time they had a pretty stacked lineup. I think this event got overlooked due to the other more prominent pro grappling events that happened recently. That is a shame, because this was a great show. If you haven't watched it yet, I'd urge you to do so. This also had a number of people from the recently completed season 8 of the PGF. After getting to know them there, I was happy to see them come and compete at EBI. There were also a good number of vets such as Gianni Grippo, Keith Krakorian and Ethan Crelinsten. I think this was the best EBI I've seen in a while, but now let's take a look at the results.

How People Won

At this event we got a 62.5% finish rate, with the other matches all going to EBI overtime. Not only were there finishes, but they also happened relatively quickly, with many of them happening in the first couple of minutes. Here leglocks dominated with most finishes coming from heelhooks and anklelocks, followed by chokes. You can check the specific submissions down below, but it was surprising that there were no armlocks(except for the 1 superfight, which is the only match I didn't cover). I was happy to see a variety of finishes and some submissions we don't often see as well.

Stats

Overall

This was a great event with a lot of action. Sometimes EBI has a bit of a weak lineup, but this time they really delivered with some names, but more importantly with excitement. Landon Elmore had a break out performance and hopefully he gets more spots on other pro-BJJ events. This EBI also seemed to go fairly quickly. Sometimes when watching pro-BJJ it feels like the events go on too long, but this went at a quick pace and was over before you knew it. Kudos to the producers and the athletes for keeping things interesting and no dragging things out.

The action score and the watchability score is among the highest this year and we even got a gogoplata finish. You can't ask for much more. There is another event tomorrow, so I'll put the year to date submissions in that blog post so stay tuned.
