What We Learned From UFC BJJ 3

UFC BJJ 3 is back with another event and this time we had 2 title defenses. If you haven't checked it out already, you can watch it for free on youtube. The rooster was good and the action lived up to the hype. I'm happy that in 2025 we are getting a lot of free, high quality grappling matches. Let's take a look at the results.

Results

Jalen Fonacier def Pedro Nakano via Inside heelhook

Ana Mayordomo def Shy Lily via Armbar

Andy Varela def Daniel Sathler via RNC

Andy Murasaki def Chris Olivo via Kimura

Jansen Gomes def Gustavo Batista via Dec

Cassia Moura def Alex Enriquez via Dec

Samuel Nagai def Kennedy Maciel via Dec

Carlos Henrique def Matheus Gabriel via Dec

Mikey Musumeci def Kevin Carasco via Mikey lock

How People Won

At UFC BJJ3 we got 66.6% of matches ending in submission, which is really good. Strangely at this event the stats are the opposite of we usually see. 22.2% of matches ended by leglock and the same amount ended by armlock. Chokes came in last here with only 1 finish. Overall these are great stats and I love seeing finishes beat out decision victories.

Stats

Overall

This was another great event by UFC BJJ and I think for the most part the athletes delivered. There were really any bad matches and the majority of them ended in submission. Best of all it is free on youtube(you can watch it down below).

UFC BJJ seems to be taking a different strategy from other promotions and trying to lure more top gi athletes into UFC BJJ. I think in some cases this has worked well, but in others you can tell that the people are used to the slower pace and strategic play of IBJJF matches. Hopefully over time they find a good roster of fighters they can use.

I think they should work on building up Jalen Foncier, Ana Mayordomo, Andy Murasaki and Cassia Moura. These are people that seem to have been overlooked by other promotions, but have been doing well in UFC BJJ. Right now I think UFC BJJ should focus on building up their divisions and letting people get to know some of the competitors.

I think the action was good at this event and there were a lot of highlight moments. There was a bit of a lul in the middle, but it ended on a high note and the first couple of matches were amazing. I'm looking forward to the next UFC BJJ card and hopefully they continue with events like this in 2026.
