What We Learned From WNO 30

WNO is back with an absolute tournament. This crowned the first WNO absolute champion. On top of this 8 man tournament we also got a few superfights and I was happy to see WNO has been expanding and using some different athletes than who we usually see. I believe that for the sport to grow we need more names and people need to become more familiar with a larger number of athletes. Craig Jones and Gordon Ryan are great at pulling in viewers, but now that they are gone we need other people to start drawing people in. I think WNO is doing a pretty good job at developing new talent and I like what they did with this card even though it didn't have the biggest names.

How People Won

Here 33.4% of matches ended in submission, which isn't bad. Half of those were armlocks and the other half chokes. There weren't any leglocks at this event. The rest of the matches ended in decision as WNO doesn't have points. This was a decent number of finishes, but not particularly impressive. That happens sometimes with big name tournaments though.

Stats

Overall

I think this was a good event overall and I was happy to see Declan win the belt. Declan has been on hot streak recently and hopefully this gets him a bit more exposure. Another person who has been on a hot streak recently is Sarah Galvao who extended it here. She's really starting to make a name for herself and I'm looking forward to seeing her again. Dante Leon also had an impressive performance and proved he can hang with anyone no matter what the size.

This wasn't the best event of all time, but it was very solid. Good action, some fun subs and we crowned a new champ. You can't ask for much more. Luckily we will get one more WNO this year and I'm looking forward to that, so stay tuned to this blog for more info stats and action.
