What We Learned From UFC BJJ 4

UFC BJJ came back with its last event of the year. This time we got 3 title fights and 2 of those were to crown new champions. We also got some new exciting names on the undercard matches. UFC BJJ seems to be looking to expand their roster and put on more exciting match ups and I hope this continues next year with UFC BJJ 5, but for now let's look at the results.

 Results

Jussier Formiga def Lucas Pinheiro via dec

Landon Elmore def Nate Hernadez via Aoki lock

Bella Mir def Rana Willink via dec

Andy Varela def Robby Malof via Inside heelhook

Dorian Oliverez def Samuel Nagai via dec

Renato Canuto def Alan Sanchez via dec

Myssa Bastos def Amanda Alequin via dec

Areleli LaVern def Requel Canuto via Kimura (New Feather Weight Champion)

Ronaldo Junior def William Tackett via dec (New Middle Weight Champion)

Andrew Tackett def Elijah Dorsey via Inside heelhook

How People Won

44% of the matches ended in submission which is pretty good. We mostly got leglocks, which was a bit suprising though. Landon Elmore and Amanda Alequin are the only people on this card I'd label as leglockers, so seeing 3 leglock wins is a bit strange, but a finish is a finish. We got one arm finish in the championship match and all the rest of the wins were decisions.

Stats

Overall

I enjoyed this event, but I do think it wasn't as good as the previous editions. There was a good amount of action, but there were a few slow matches. I would like to see more penalties for inactivity and hopefully they bring back the people that were going for subs and making the show exciting.

I'm sure the UFC was a bit disapointed that William Tackett and Raquel Canuto didn't win the belts, but that happens sometimes. I think Ronaldo and Aurelie did a great job and I'm looking forward to seeing them again.

Overall I think UFC BJJ is improving their match making and the roster is looking better. Let's hope they continue this in 2026.
