What We Learned From Polaris 35 (Polaris vs WNO)

Polaris is back with another team event and this time they are on flo. They have moved from ufcfightpass to flograpping and for their first event they did a WNO vs Polaris team event. I was very excited about this as their team events last year were a lot of fun and we got to see many grapplers that aren't often featured on other shows. I'd like to see this become a yearly thing where they have the 2 teams against each other as I thought there were lots of good match ups and a good amount of action. On top of that we got 2 nice superfights as well. Let's take a look at the 2 teams and then get to the results.

Team WNO

Gavin Corbe

How People Won

As you can see here most of the matches were won by points. This was likely due to the short time limits of the matches. Although I think it made things more interesting it also caused more point victories. Overall 20.8% of matches ended in submission, which isn't great, but it happens sometimes. The subs were got were good, but there were too few of them for my liking.

Overall

This was a really fun event and I hope they do it again next year. I would have liked more finishes, but I think there was a good amount of action and it was certainly fun to watch. I liked the whole WNO vs Polaris angle as well and I think it was a nice way to introduce Polaris to the Flo audience. I think the match ups were competitive enough and there were some surprises in there. I hope they bring back Meyram Alves again because I don't think it is fair having his first match against someone who is about 4 weight claasses above him. He wasn't able to show what he is capable of. I also felt the Corbe bros didn't get enough time on the mats, but hopefully they get another chance soon. Levi is the new Polaris champ and Adele won her match very convincingly, while showing some new skills. I hope they bring back Adele soon and I'd like to see Levi rematch Matheus or PJ Barch next.

I think this was a great first event on Flo and I'm interested to see what Polaris will do this year. Last year they did mostly team events, but perhaps this year they will go back to superfights. Either way I'll be watching.
