What We Learned From The 2026 IBJJF Nogi Absolute GP

The IBJJF is back with another Nogi GP. This time it was an Absolute GP. It seems like they wanted to have a few vets in there, but also show some new and up coming talent. There were quite a few names who had just gotten their black belts recently included and it was nice to see them showcased. They also had some gi matches as well, but you know we don't cover those here. We did get to see a Helena Crevar superlight though, which is always appreciated. Let's see the bracket and results.

Results

Victor Hugo def Marlon Tajik via points

Javier Barter def Nick Hartman via RNC

Pedro Marinho def Deigo "Pato" Oliveria via points

Gustavo Batista def Michael Pixley via points

Victor Hugo def Javier Barter via RNC

Pedro Marinho def Gustavo Batista via Inside heelhook

Helena Crevar def Aghata Rabelo via Darce choke

Victor Hugo def Tarik Pedro Marinho via points

How People Won

50% of the matches ended in submission which is always good to see. There are many times where IBJJF matches can be boring, but the competitors really picked up the pace this time and there were a number of good matches on this card. Chokes were the most common submission, but there was 1 quick leglock by Pedro Marhinho.

Overall

This was a decent event. I appreciate that they tried to showcase some newer people, but I would have liked to see some better names included as well. I think promotions should really think about the excitement factor when inviting people to these events. There are people with big names and accolades that aren't fun to watch, while there are others who haven't won as many tournaments, but always put on a good show. I think when deciding who is invited, the excitement factor should come first for pro events. That said, this event wasn't bad and for the most part people were going out there to win. Hopefully they do more of these in the future, especially with other weight classes(not heavy weights).
