What We Learned From UFC BJJ 6

UFC BJJ is back with its 6th event. We got 2 title matches and one of those involved the return of Ffion Davies who has been missing for about a year. We also got to see Mason Fowler in his first title defense. I'm happy to see UFC BJJ trying to build BJJ by keeping the events coming. Let's get into the results.

 Results

Manuel Ribamar def Caio Vinicius via dec

Joao Miyao def Jussier Formiga via dec

Devonte Johnson def Lucas Norat via dec

Ana Rodriguez def Jasmine Rocha via dec

Meyram Maquine def Marcos Mendes via Armbar

Nick Rodriguez vs Elder Cruz ended in a Draw

Cassia Moura def Ffion Davies via dec

Mason Fowler def Pedro Machado via dec

How People Won

There is no way to spin this. 1 submission and a 14% sub rate isn't good. UFC BJJ has generally been very good about submissions and action, but they fell short here. Of course there is more to the matches than subs, but in general, I think the match making wasn't as good as it could have been. There wasn't really anything that was really bad, but there just wasn't enough excitement, which is a shame.

Stats

Overall

I think UFC BJJ has been doing a good job overall, but this wasn't it. I think a major problem was the match making and I hope they start to put more thought into these matches. Just because someone has credentials in the gi, it doesn't mean they will be a good addition to a pro nogi show. Not every match can be exciting, but there were a number of matches here that I knew would be duds before they even happened. Elder Cruz vs Nicky Rod already happened once and it was bad. We didn't need to see it again.. Ana Rodriguez vs Jasmine Rocha didn't really have that much potential for excitement. I'd suggest in the future being more selective with the match making to ensure exciting matches(Meyram Maquine was good though).

Luckily there is another event coming soon, so hopefully that will be much better. Keep an eye out for that blog, but for now take a look below at the year to date stats.
