What We Learned From UFC BJJ 7

UFC BJJ is back with another event and I was happy to see they came back so soon. Honestly they need a bit of redemption after the last event. However was this event able to deliver. We had 3 title fights and some good undercard matches. Unfortunately Mergali pulled out at the last minute, but was replaced by Patrick Gaudio, which is a good replacement.

How People Won

UFC BJJ 7 put up some good numbers here. 62.5% of matches ended in submission which is a great number. Most of the submissions were leglocks followed by chokes. We didn't get any armlocks here and we got 3 decision wins. Anytime we get more submissions than decisions I'm happy. The last UFC BJJ was a bit lackluster as far as subs were concerned, so I'm happy to see that this event was a huge improvement.

Stats

Overall

This was a good event overall. I think it had a good amount of names and the action was good. I like that they are working on building up talent like Raphael Ferriera and Rana Willink. Hopefully this investment bears fruit. The sport needs more names right now, so building up the next generation is really important right now.

2 titles changed hands during this event. Rebecca Lima took the belt and I think this shakes things up a bit and opens up some new matches. We'll see who the UFC gets to take her on next. Carlos Henrique also lost his belt to Lucas Valente. Valente has a dangerous guard, but he certainly isn't unbeatable. I think they can come up with some good matchups for him and hopefully the UFC brings in someone to challenge him soon.

I've had problems with the match making of UFC BJJ before, but this time things were a bit better. However I do like how they're trying to build up the younger talent and I think the more frequent shows are helping viewers to get to know them.
