What We Learned from The Main Character Jiu-jitsu Invitational

Main Character jiu-jitsu came back with its biggest event ever. I usually don't cover their matches, but they had lots of pro level athletes on this and it definitely deserved to be covered. Many of these athletes will be at ADCC, so this is a nice preview of what we'll see later this year. I should note that there were 2 days worth of matches, but I only covered the 2nd day pro level matches. There were a ton of title fights and big names, so let's take a look at the results.

 Results

Joslin Molina def Chelsea Coleman via Farce choke

Windson Torres def Bruno Matias via Armtriangle choke

Francisco Lo def Logan Smith via Armtriangle choke

Max Hansen def Austin Oranday via Ankle lock

Achilles Rocha def Sebastian Attard via Toehold

Felipe Costa def Jon Blank via points

Jaine Fragosso def Natasha Druggan via dec

Helena Crevar def Kennedy Franklin via Rear Triangle

Josh Cisneros def Kade Tsitos via dec

Gianni Grippo def Reese LaFever via dec

Amanda Bruse def Jasmine Rocha via Armbar

Marlon Tajik def Nick Mataya via Ankle lock

 How People Won

70% of the matches ended in submission making this one of the best events this year. We got the usual breakdown where chokes made up the majority of subs, followed by leglocks and the armlocks. I love it whenever we get this many subs and I think for an event it is important to make a good impression on people who may not have seen MCJJ before.

Stats

Overall

This was a great event for MCJJ. The names lived up to the hype here. Amanda Bruse came through with an upset and ended up subbing Jasmine Rocha. This is a big win for her and this might propel her into some higher profile matches. Marlon Tajik had a great match against Nick Mataya and is starting to make a name for himself on the pro scene. I hope that we see him again soon and he gets a step up in competition. Achilles Rocha looks improved and better as well as bigger than ever. He should be an exciting addition to ADCC as well. Gianni Grippo has been up and down recently, but right now he appears to be on an upswing. He looked really good and has added some new tricks to his game.

Overall this was a really good show and I'll definitely be watching more MCJJ in the future. I hope they can keep the same level of competitors and action in the future. I'm looking forward to it.
