What We Learned From Polaris 37

Polaris is back and they did another team event this time. Previously they did it by region, but this time they did Team Polaris vs Team BJJ Stars. We also got a title match from Helena Crevar. They brought together some of the biggest names from Polaris and put them into one card for this event. It was nice seeing some of these people as they don't get featured much in other orgs since they are based in Europe or Brazil. Honestly I was really looking forward to watching Matheus Szczecinski, but he pulled out due to food poisoning. His replacement was great though, so I can't complain too much. Anyway let's look at the teams and the results.

How People Won

Here about 66% of the matches ended in submission, which isn't bad, but isn't amazing either. This is a fairly normal result, but I think the amount of action is better than what the stats say. Chokes and leglocks came out on top followed by armlocks, which is what we usually see for pro grappling events.

I would have liked to see more subs, but I'm guessing the short match time contributed to the lower amount of finishes. Faster matches usually increase action, but often the amount of submissions goes down.

Overall

I thought this was a good event despite not having the best stats. It did have a lot of interesting techniques on display and I always appreciate that. It was also nice to see some of the pro grapplers that we don't see often such as Lucas Kannard. I like this format and I hope they keep doing it, but perhaps they shouldn't do it for almost every event like they did last year.

At the end BJJ Stars challenged Team Polaris to come to BJJ Stars and do matches there. I'd be very interested in seeing that and hopefully we get some rematches over there.
