What We Learned From UFC BJJ 9

UFC BJJ came back with another event and this time we only got 1 title fight. However we did get a lot of good matches. It looks like UFC BJJ is trying to build up their divisions, so they've been doing some matches to try to determine who should be the next contender for title. We also got to see the return of Gilbert Burns to grappling after his retirement from MMA. Let's take a look at the results.

Results

Ana Lima  def  Amandam Mazza via Inverted armbar

Maurice Ramirez def Victor Deliberto via dec

John Chandler def Raphael Ferreira via Triangle choke

Achilles Rocha def Felipe Pimentel via Outside heelhook

Bella Mir def Nichelle Johnson via Armbar

Ffion Davies def Amanda Bruse via Armbar

Nick Rodriguez def Joao Nicolite via RNC

Gilbert Burns def Horlando Monterio via RNC

Mason Fowler def Devonte Johnson via RNC

How People Won

There was only 1 decision during the whole event, which means that almost 90% of the matches ended in submission. You can't ask for more than that. On top of that the matches themselves were all good. Chokes, particularly the RNC made up the bulk of the subs, but we also got a number of armlocks. There was also 1 leglock. Overall the results were great.

Stats

Overall

This was a great event. There were tons of subs and the action was good throughout. I don't think there was really a bad match on the card. The athletes really came through here and made this a great event. This has the highest action rating so far out of any event I've covered this year, so it is definitely worth checking out. I'd be interested in a Damien Maia vs Gillbert Burns match, so hopefully they put that together in the future. JT Torres also said he was interested in a match with Burns, so that might be good as well. I think Nicky Rod should get the next match against Mason and have Rocha go against Elder Cruz for the next contender spot. Ffion Davies needs one more match before a rematch in my opinion. Perhaps Sarah Galvao would be a good choice. Overall the match making is improving and to be honest this card turned out better than I thought. Hopefully they keep this momentum going into the next event in August.

I'll be doing the Polaris card soon, so I'll do the year to date stats in that one, so stay tuned.
