PGF Season 7 Day 1

PGF is back for season 7 and I'm here to cover it. We just finished day 1 and I have some of the stats from it. There have been a few changes this season and IMO they are for the better. The biggest one is the penalties and the clock. Now when there is stalling they put the offender on a 20 sec clock and if they still don't produce action they will be put into referee's position. I love this system and I think it worked well during the matches. Anyway, let's look at the results and see who is in the lead.

How People Won

Let me state here that I didn't do stats for every match. I did the first 10 matches in the 1st block and the 6 more matches. The 6 other matches were just the matches I wanted to watch. I tried to keep things fair by not looking at the results before deciding to do stats on those 6, so there shouldn't be any bias in them hopefully.

Overall we got a respectable 31.3% finish rate. That seems about average and usually things pick up on the subsequent days. It was suprising that we only had one choke as those are usually number 1. What makes it even more strange is that they are worth more points in PGF, so you'd like there would be more. We also didn't see any armlocks, but that happens sometimes.

Stats

I'll just leave these here and won't comment too much on them since I'll be covering this all week.

Best Matches

My favorite matches were

Ryan Atkin vs Davis Asare - A nice leg lock battle with a brutal finish.

Marcin Maciulewicz vs Andre Porfirio - A quick match with a rare Z-lock finish

Elijah Carlton vs Dory Aoun - A cool style clash with a classic finish. I didn't cover this one in the stats, but I wish I did.

Kyle Chambers vs Nathan Haddad - A nice back and forth with a cool finish.

Paul Ardila vs Bradley Schneider - Short and sweet.

I hope they bring back the smooth comp matches, so I can link them individually. If that comes back I'll be sure to give you the links to the individual matches. Until then you can watch the whole event here.

Overall

This was a good first day. There was a lot of action and I think the new stalling rules helped keep things going. Of course I always want more subs, but I can't really complain too much about the action. There wasn't a terrible match on the card, which is impressive since there were 30 matches. This is a great start and I can't wait to see who is going to come out on top. Team New Hope Regeneration is on top now lead by Ryan Atkin, but there are 4 more days and thing can change fast. Check back here tomorrow for more stats, results and breakdown.

Also for those wondering about the year to date stats, don't worry. As soon as PGF is over I'll add all the stats to it and release it.
